What Is An Implant?

An implant is a compact metal screw that takes the place of a complete tooth. During a relatively quick surgical procedure, your dentist positions the implant into the bone beneath your gums, precisely where a natural tooth would be located. This implant effectively functions as a genuine tooth root and is then topped with a restoration, typically a dental crown, to mimic the appearance and tactile sensation of a real tooth.

Considering dental implants is a significant step, and if you’re contemplating this option but uncertain about what to anticipate, we are here to provide comprehensive information. Our aim is to equip you with the knowledge necessary to make an informed decision regarding your dental treatment.

I live over 2 hours away but after hearing numerous positive reviews from friends and being disappointed by a local dental office, I decided to visit this dental office for a cleaning, cavity check, and x-rays. Unlike my previous experiences closer to home, Dr. Singh's explanations were clear and he provided up to date treatment options, making the process much smoother. The efficiency of Dr. Singh and his dental assistants was impressive. Gillian, the office manager, was delightful, and her calming demeanor was greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dr. Singh, for the exceptional service!

I switched to T. Smiles Dental after my previous office was bought out by a corporation and the service went downhill. I have had both Dr. Singh and Dr. Habib and they are both so lovely and make you feel like you're in good hands. Crystal, the hygienist, is quick, thorough, and very easy to pass the hour appointment with. I think the best part about switching is that I trust the opinions I'm getting and I never feel like I'm being over-sold unnecessary treatments, which is a big deal for me. A well-earned 5 stars!

Why Dental Implants Might Be For You?

Your natural teeth serve as crucial support structures for maintaining the height and shape of your smile, as well as ensuring comfortable eating and speaking.

A gap within your smile can lead to the misalignment of your remaining teeth, potentially increasing the risk of oral health problems. The loss of even a single tooth can set off a chain reaction in your mouth, negatively impacting your oral well-being, facial aesthetics, and overall quality of life.

Even if you don’t immediately notice the effects of missing teeth, one unavoidable issue arises: bone resorption. This natural process involves your body breaking down non-essential bone tissue to utilize its minerals elsewhere.

When your jawbone has teeth, these teeth exert pressure on it, encouraging the generation of new bone tissue. However, when those teeth are lost, the bone tissue no longer serves a purpose, gradually deteriorating. The consequence? A diminished jawline and chin, resulting in wrinkles and a sunken appearance in your cheeks and lips.

Opting for dental implants represents the second-best solution to natural teeth. By replacing lost teeth with implants, you can proactively prevent or address the aforementioned problems.

What To Expect For Your Journey

The actual implant placement process is much more comfortable than you might imagine.

    The First Step

initially, you will undergo a dental implant assessment to determine the suitability of implants for your specific needs. During this phase, your dentist will conduct X-rays and employ a 3D cone-beam CT scan to assess the condition of your jaw’s bone structure and meticulously strategize your treatment. Additionally, the dental team will capture a scan or impression of your teeth to aid in the precise planning of the implant’s positioning and angulation.

    Setting The Implant

We apply an anesthetic to ensure the surgical area becomes entirely insensitive to pain. Subsequently, the dentist proceeds to make a small incision in both the gums and the underlying bone within your mouth. The implant post is then carefully positioned within this incision. On occasion (though not in every case), sutures may be required to securely seal the gums.

Finalizing The Restoration Of The Tooth

After your procedure, you return home to allow your implant to undergo the healing process over the next several months. Upon your return to our practice, we will have your dental restoration prepared and ready. We will then proceed to affix the restoration, providing you with a completely functional, brand-new tooth before you leave.

    Contact us today

to schedule an initial consultation & exam.

Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and, most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.

The Cost Of An Implant In Tottenham

In Tottenham, the cost of a single dental implant typically ranges from $3,000 to $6,000 or more. Full-mouth reconstructive dental implants can vary significantly, ranging from $6,000 to $60,000 and beyond. If you’re considering a full set of implant-supported dentures, the average cost typically hovers around $30,000. It’s important to note that providing an accurate quote over the phone is challenging, as the dental implant procedure’s complexity depends on various unique factors for each individual.

Several key factors influence the cost of dental implant surgery, including:

    • The type and quantity of implants required.
    • The materials and supplies used in the procedure.
    • The experience and expertise of the dental team involved in your care.
    • The location and intricacy of the surgical procedure.
    • Your recovery duration, with our commitment to supporting you throughout.

Every case is distinct, so it’s essential to consult with a dentist, undergo an oral examination, and explore various treatment options tailored to your specific situation. We’d be delighted to offer you a more precise quote.

Are there alternative solutions for missing teeth? For cases involving 1 to 3 missing teeth, dental bridges can sometimes provide a suitable solution. Extensive tooth loss, either on the upper or lower jaw or involving the entire mouth, may necessitate dental prosthetics or removable dentures. When comparing the cost of dental implants to other tooth-replacement options, it’s vital to consider the advantages and disadvantages.

While dental implants may require a higher initial investment, they offer greater stability and durability compared to bridges or dentures. Removable dental prosthetics necessitate different care and maintenance, often requiring adjustments or replacements with age. In contrast, you care for your dental implant much like you do for natural teeth, with regular home oral care and routine dental check-ups. With proper maintenance, a dental implant can last a lifetime.

    Frequently Asked Questions

You can rest assured that nobody will ever discern that your implants differ from your natural teeth. Dental implants consist of concealed metal screws, discreetly positioned beneath your gums and concealed by natural-looking restorations seamlessly blending with the rest of your smile.

Dentures and implants are distinct and serve different functions. Dentures sit atop your gums, applying pressure to the underlying bone tissue, while implants enhance your bite by anchoring securely beneath your gums. Each tooth replacement option comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. To determine the most suitable treatment for your needs, we strongly advise you to schedule an in-person consultation with us.

To be eligible for an implant, you should be an adult with overall good oral health. It’s crucial for your jawbone to possess sufficient strength to support the new implant, while your gums and supporting tissues must also be in a healthy condition to minimize the risk of complications. If you have concerns about your candidacy, we encourage you to contact us for a definitive evaluation. There are typically treatment options accessible to enhance your oral health, with the ultimate objective of making you a suitable candidate for a dental implant. Additionally, there are often alternative solutions available for addressing missing teeth.

The field of dental implants has advanced so rapidly since its inception that it has become an extremely reliable and relatively painless procedure today. The dental implant process is executed with meticulous care and precision, ensuring that you encounter as little discomfort as possible. Following the procedure, and with appropriate postoperative care, you can anticipate minimal swelling and nearly no bleeding. Your physical and emotional well-being are of utmost importance to us, so if you have any apprehensions about visiting us for any reason, please don’t hesitate to inform us.

In the majority of instances, you can typically resume work the day following your implant surgery. However, once we have precise details about your treatment plan, we can provide a more precise time frame and notify you in advance if any additional time off is necessary. Rest assured, we will thoroughly go over all post-operative care instructions with you to ensure your optimal recovery.

The long-term success of your implants hinges on your diligent maintenance. Similar to your natural teeth, regular professional cleaning and examinations are essential. Typically, we suggest check-ups every six months, although the frequency may vary based on your individual needs. Your specific requirements will guide our recommendations for check-up intervals.

No, implants do not need to be routinely replaced. Once you get a dental implant, it is meant to stay with you for a very long time.

Treat your dental implants with the same care as your natural teeth: maintain a routine of regular brushing and flossing, attend cleanings and checkups, and promptly inform your doctor of any issues or concerns.
