Make teeth look and feel natural again.

Dental fillings are the most common procedure performed in our office. They repair and restore the tooth and help prevent painful decay or infection that would require more serious work. We use composite resin fillings that are colour matched to your tooth. Unlike amalgam (metal fillings), tooth-coloured composite resin bonds really well with the tooth and is capable of filling much smaller spaces which means less drilling!

Restore the natural look and feel of your teeth.

At our office, dental fillings are one of the most frequently performed procedures. They effectively repair and restore teeth, preventing painful decay or infection that may require more extensive treatment. For fillings, we use colour-matched composite resin that seamlessly blends with your natural tooth. Compared to metal fillings (amalgam), composite resin bonds exceptionally well with the tooth and can fill smaller spaces, reducing the need for excessive drilling.

How is a Cavity Filled?

Gentle Freezing

Prior to commencing the procedure, we will take ample time to ensure that your gums are adequately numbed, allowing us to gently freeze the area. While this step can often be a source of anxiety for many, it is crucial for a comfortable experience. Once numb, you will barely feel anything during the procedure, as your teeth and the surrounding area will be effectively desensitized.

Filling the Tooth

Once we confirm that you are comfortably numb, we proceed by meticulously cleaning and preparing the affected tooth. An adhesive gel is then applied to the tooth, which acts as a foundation for the composite resin (white filling material) to be molded and sculpted to match your contours and bite perfectly.

Curing the Composite

The composite resin material utilized for filling or bonding your tooth is rapidly hardened and cured using a specialized LED light. Subsequently, the dentist thoroughly examines the treated tooth, making any necessary finishing touches before providing it with a final polish for an impeccable finish.

The Cost of Filling Teeth at T. Smiles

Fillings are a standard and highly effective means of preventing and addressing dental issues, which is why most insurance companies provide significant coverage for them. Depending on your insurance plan, you may expect to pay anywhere from $0 to $100+ for a typical filling procedure. In the absence of dental insurance, the cost may range from $120 to $300 or more, especially if multiple fillings are required in a single visit.

To determine the actual cost of your treatment, we consider several critical factors, including your current oral health, the number of fillings required, the location of the cavity in your mouth, whether any new x-rays are necessary, the time needed by our dental team to meet your specific needs, as well as the equipment and supplies needed to provide comprehensive care.

Promptly addressing cavities is of utmost importance to us since fillings are highly effective at preventing more invasive treatments, serious dental pain, and ensuring your overall well-being and satisfaction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Regular brushing, flossing, and dental checkups can help your fillings last for more than a decade.

In general, composite fillings are covered by most dental insurance plans. However, the extent of coverage may vary depending on the individual’s plan and the insurance provider’s policies. It’s best to check with your specific insurance provider to determine the details of your coverage.

If you’re in severe pain that’s hindering your ability to eat or sleep, please contact us immediately as it’s considered a dental emergency. We can offer guidance over the phone and arrange to see you as soon as possible. For temporary relief from toothache, place a cold compress over the affected area. Painkillers like acetaminophen (e.g., Tylenol) or ibuprofen (e.g., Advil) may help alleviate your discomfort, but be sure to follow the instructions on the bottle and your doctor’s advice. Keep track of the medication, dosage, and time taken, and inform us during your visit.

Composite fillings are designed to match the color of your natural teeth, resulting in a seamless and natural-looking appearance. As a result, they blend in with your surrounding teeth and are not easily noticeable, providing a more aesthetically pleasing result compared to traditional amalgam (silver) fillings.

I live over 2 hours away but after hearing numerous positive reviews from friends and being disappointed by a local dental office, I decided to visit this dental office for a cleaning, cavity check, and x-rays. Unlike my previous experiences closer to home, Dr. Singh's explanations were clear and he provided up to date treatment options, making the process much smoother. The efficiency of Dr. Singh and his dental assistants was impressive. Gillian, the office manager, was delightful, and her calming demeanor was greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dr. Singh, for the exceptional service!

I switched to T. Smiles Dental after my previous office was bought out by a corporation and the service went downhill. I have had both Dr. Singh and Dr. Habib and they are both so lovely and make you feel like you're in good hands. Crystal, the hygienist, is quick, thorough, and very easy to pass the hour appointment with. I think the best part about switching is that I trust the opinions I'm getting and I never feel like I'm being over-sold unnecessary treatments, which is a big deal for me. A well-earned 5 stars!
